In the lively food scene of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, and the Western Cape, there’s a beloved family-run business called We Are Food. For more than ten years, Jane and Amy have been creating tasty frozen meals that you can enjoy at home. What started as Jane’s hobby—cooking frozen meals for friends—has grown into a successful venture, especially after Amy joined as a partner. They began small, working out of a garage and eventually moving to a 500m2 industrial kitchen in Durban North.
Nowadays, We are Food can be ordered online with delivery nationwide, they also have two stores in KZN, and their meals are sold in over 50 stockists across South Africa, and throughout the UAE, through Spinney’s stores. Amy and Jane credit their strong sisterly bond for their success, balancing their roles as business owners and mothers.
Their menu showcases skills, offering everything from pies and plaits to wholesome salads which include traditional family favourites, vegetarian, lower carb, naturally gluten free and dairy free options. You can heat these meals from frozen in your air fryer, oven, or microwave, making them convenient without compromising on quality.
Looking forward, We are Food continues to grow. They recently secured a deal to produce meals for Checkers and are expanding internationally. Their focus is to cement themselves as a leader in contract production for frozen, chilled or ambient food, while they continue to grow the We are Food brand and increase their international footprint. Amy and Jane are optimistic about the future, grateful for the support from their family, team, and community.
