Bandini Cheese – A Proud Family Legacy of Quality and Tradition

The story of Bandini Cheese is one filled with family, hard work, and a passion for quality. It all began in 1957, when Omero and Elena Bandini started a small cottage business in South Africa. From their humble beginnings, they made delicious Italian cheeses that quickly became a favourite among locals. The Bandini family were among the first to bring authentic Italian food to South Africa — a legacy that continues to this day.

In the early 1980s, their sons Rob and Morris Bandini took over the family business. Both trained engineers, they combined their technical skills and family values to grow Bandini Cheese into a successful, quality-driven enterprise. Over the years, they have built a team of dedicated and skilled people who share their commitment to excellence.

The core cheese factory, located in Doornkop, has come a long way since its small beginnings. Today, it is a large, modern facility that processes millions of litres of milk every year to produce high-quality mozzarella, milk, butter, and cream — the main products that carry the Bandini name.

The head office in Robertsham is home to several divisions that make up the Bandini family business. This includes Impact Distributors for sales and logistics, Fresco Foods for manufacturing, and Elena’s Delicatessen, named in honour of the family matriarch, Elena Bandini. Each part of the business works together to ensure that every Bandini product reflects their long-standing tradition of quality and care.

In recent years, the Bandini family has expanded even further with a state-of-the-art packaging and bottling plant for Fresco Beverages in Walkerville. This exciting addition continues their vision of combining tradition with innovation.

From a small family kitchen in 1957 to a trusted national brand, Bandini Cheese remains a shining example of South African craftsmanship and Italian passion — a true legacy of flavour and family.
