Wedgewood Nougat

“We started Wedgewood Nougat in 1999 in our family kitchen. Gilly Walters, our mother, is a culinary pioneer who hosted concerts at her house for up to 100 guests. Culinary creations from her kitchen would entertain and delight her guests. Having lived in France as an au pair in her youth, Gilly decided to recreate Montpelemar Nougat as an alternative for an evening dessert.

The first batch was runny and had to be served frozen. Gilly toiled over the stove for five months before perfecting the Wedgewood recipe we still make today. Gilly took her nougat and her totally unique nougat biscuits to the local farmer’s market and quickly gained a following. We still use sustainable and environmentally friendly ingredients, and Gilly’s world class recipes are still made with the same attention to detail and innovative passion with every swirl of the whisk.

In terms of culinary experimentation, Gilly was way ahead of her time. Wedgewood’s next generation of flavour innovators continue to be inspired by her recipes. The Wedgewood Family now includes all the people who have joined the Wedgewood Team under her banner. Despite our diverse backgrounds, we’re all about making a difference, whether that’s developing recipes, giving back to the community or being more eco-friendly. We all share the same goal. The Wedgewood Family is also our community of customers who have helped us build and grow over the years.

Wedgewood gives back to its people and community. We are on a mission to include 1% of our turnover from our Emporiums to sponsor community projects. Our team is passionate about a variety of projects that impact the lives of our team, our community, and the environment.

We launched our very own Handmade Box Project in 2021 that employs people with disabilities in our local community. This idea was born from our need for beautifully crafted handmade boxes and a request from our community to find jobs for these previously disadvantaged people. We sell these boxes online and in our Wedgewood Gifting and Hamper Emporiums. The project is based on our farm in the Midlands and gives customers the chance to support something local and meaningful. These beautiful boxes are the perfect showcase for our homemade honey nougat, which was itself inspired by our mom’s drive to help others. The Wedgewood Handmade Box Project is growing. We now employ two full-time Handmade Box Project team members, Sli and Sphume, who can produce up to 100 handmade boxes a day in six artisanal steps. Sli and Sphume guarantee quality and workmanship with each unique creation. Each box has a personal message from them inside, ‘x’.”
