Job brief

We are a medium-sized refrigerated transport company with a national footprint, looking for an experienced Warehouse Supervisor to oversee and coordinate our daily warehousing activities at our Johannesburg truck depot. You will supervise a team of up to 50 local drivers, warehouse assistants, and forklift drivers in order to maintain the cold-chain while accurately processing the necessary volume of stock within strict time limits.

In service of this goal, you will implement productivity, quality, and customer service standards. This will involve running efficient meetings, analysing team & individual performance, delivering regular team training and individual coaching, strategic task delegation, and holding your team accountable.

To be successful in this role you should be experienced in optimising warehousing processes and be an effective team leader. You should be highly dependable and have excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills.

Reports to: National Fleet Control Manager (CPT) and Local Depot Manager (JHB)

Responsibilities include:

  1. Achieving high levels of customer satisfaction through excellence in receiving, identifying, dispatching, and quality assurance of temperature-controlled goods:
  • Maintaining the cold-chain while tracking and coordinating the receipt, storage, and timely delivery of goods
  • Checking orders, bills, items received, inventory, and deliveries for accuracy
  • Maintaining records, reporting relevant information, and preparing any necessary documentation
  • Utilise reports to project warehouse status
  • Communicating and coordinating with other departments and customers
  • Interface with customers other departments to answer questions and solve problems
  1. Managing, evaluating, and reporting on warehouse productivity:
  • Organising, ordering, and maintaining inventory and storage area
  • Coordinating and maintaining equipment
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Performing daily inspection of the warehouse grounds
  • Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of warehousing activities and employees performance
  1. Lead, manage, and hold accountable warehouse assistants and forklift drivers:
  • Communicate job expectations and coach employees
  • Determine staffing levels and assign workload
  • Identify areas for improvement and adjust existing work practices
  • Apply appropriate consequence management in case of poor performance
  • Constantly work to improve processes
  • Confer and coordinate activities with other departments

Requirements and skills

  • Proven work experience as a Warehouse Supervisor
  • Highly developed supervisory skills and utilisation of management techniques
  • Knowledge of warehouse software packages and MS Office proficiency
  • Ability to input, retrieve, and analyse data
  • Hands-on commitment to getting the job done
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to direct and coordinate operations
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Higher Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or equivalent
