From Truck Assistant to Depot Manager: Shauno’s Journey at LMC Express
Shauno’s story at LMC Express is a perfect example of how hard work, dedication, and a willingness to grow lead to success. Starting in 2011, his journey with the company has been a steady climb, full of learning and exciting challenges. Here’s a look at how he rose from being a truck assistant to becoming a depot manager.
Early Years at LMC Express
Shauno’s career at LMC Express began in 2011 when he joined as a truck assistant. For the first two years, he worked hard, helping to load and unload trucks. It was a hands-on job, and he quickly learned the ins and outs of the transportation industry. His dedication and eagerness to learn didn’t go unnoticed, and by 2013, he earned his forklift licence. This opened up new opportunities for him.
After earning his forklift licence, he took on a new role as a fleet control assistant. In this position, he was responsible for managing the floor and overseeing the loading of trucks. His responsibilities grew, and he continued to prove himself as a reliable and hardworking member of the team.
In 2015, he took another important step in his career by earning his Code 10 driver’s licence. This allowed him to drive trucks locally, and he worked as a local truck driver for a year. His time behind the wheel gave him even more insight into the logistics side of the business.
By 2017, he transitioned to the role of a local logistics planner. This marked a significant shift in his career, requiring a more strategic and organised approach. As a planner, he was responsible for ensuring that operations ran smoothly and that the company’s logistics met their targets. He also travelled to places like Johannesburg, KwaZulu-Natal, and Port Elizabeth to manage operations and oversee logistics planning.
Taking on a New Challenge in Port Elizabeth
In 2021, LMC Express announced plans to open a new branch in Port Elizabeth (PE). Shauno didn’t hesitate – he was the only one willing to relocate and take on the challenge. In July 2021, he moved to PE to become the Senior Route Controller and Depot Manager.
His role in PE involved ensuring that trucks were fully booked and loaded to meet monthly targets. As the depot manager, he was also responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations in both PE and George, ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
Personal Growth and Success
Shauno credits much of his success to the support and training he received from LMC Express. The company provided him with a career coach, mentorship programmes, and training workshops, which helped him grow both professionally and personally. These opportunities allowed him to continue climbing the ladder and ultimately become the manager he is today.
In 2022, Shauno’s personal life also took a significant step forward when his girlfriend moved to PE to be with him. The following year, in 2023, he married his longtime partner. This was a wonderful moment in his life, demonstrating that his hard work and commitment extended beyond his career.
Life Outside Work
Outside of work, Shauno is a family man. He enjoys long drives, especially to Cape Town, where he visits his daughter and family. He is also a big soccer fan and supports Liverpool. In recent years, he has developed a love for rugby as well.
