Barend Engelbrecht’s 10-year journey at LMC Express is all about growth, hard work, and grabbing every opportunity that comes his way.

From “Let’s See What Happens” to Route Controller

Barend joined LMC in 2015 straight out of Matric, with no job description and no idea what he’d be doing. He started by fixing equipment and doing handyman tasks, then moved on to tyre fitments, loading trucks with the Hyster, and helping wherever needed.

Soon the licences started rolling in:
Code 8, then Code 10, and finally Code 14 — each one pushing him into a new role. He drove bakkies, delivered to tight spots, and later became a local truck driver.

When a Night Watchman role opened, he took it. The quiet nights were good… until COVID made the hours tough. But the next big opportunity came fast — the launch of the PE depot created a new chance: Cape Town Planner. With only a month of training, Barend jumped in and mastered the role.

Two years later, he stepped up again and became the CPT–JHB Route Controller, the position he proudly holds today.

Fatherhood Lessons

Raising his daughter alongside his wonderful wife has been a beautiful journey — full of moments he truly cherishes.

After Work

Barend enjoys playing golf and has recently tried fishing, even though he doesn’t eat seafood (yes, he laughs about this too!).
